LUCY

Lucy was a hair's breadth away from being euthanized when one of our friends jumped in to save her.  Her foster mom had owned an Akita before and understood them.  It was love at first sight.  Lucy now has an extended family of grown human children, human grandparents and dog buddies who visit her often.  She gets to take a walk every day, weather permitting.  And she has even learned how to live with cats!  Lucky Lucy.  You are such a sweet goofball.  Happy Life!

SAVIKA

Savika has found a new home and is learning to live with an older dog.  She loves to go for walks, stop at the bank and meet people.  She has come a long ways since being left at the shelter with her Akita friend, Magoo, who has also found a new forever home.  We wish Savika all the best and lots of belly rubs.

MAGGIE MAE

Maggie Mae is now living the life of Riley with Dusty and Phyllis and a young dog.  She sleeps on a soft futon, plays catch in the yard and takes Dusty on lot of walks.  We are so grateful that Maggie Mae found a happy home in which to spend her senior years.  She holds a special place in our hearts. Happy life, Maggie Mae.

GUINNESS

Guinness stole our hearts the minute we met him and it was hard to let him go.  But look at the fun he is having with Gia and Michael.  How many dogs can go snowshoeing on Saturday and to the beach on Sunday?  This young woolie is having the time of his life and loving every minute of it.   He loves going on trips and walks and meeting people.  And he is such a handsome boy, people stop and do a double-take.  We know that Guinness is very happy and we smile whenever we hear of his adventures and see him grow.  We love you, Guinness!

SHAKIRA

Shakira is not going anywhere.  Her foster family has decided to keep her.  They know she has some issues and they have learned to work with her.  She is part of a multi-dog family and has lots of people who care about her.  And lucky girl - she doesn't live very far from Guinness, so we expect she will be taking some walks with the handsome woolie boy.  Thanks so much to Julie and Bob and Stacey for loving this special girl.

MAVERICK

Our top gun of a dog finally found his forever home.  The wait was well worth it and he and his new mom are very happy.  Lots of hugs to our sweet boy.  And many happy years with your new family.

UPDATE: Through no fault of anyone, Maverick is looking for a new forever home.  Please see the Adoption page for details.

JOJO

YAY for Jojo!  He has a new life with a loving family and two new Bichon friends to play with.  He touched so many lives on his journey with WAG and we will miss him.  High five, Jojo!

Jojo is now known as Auggie.

SUMI

Sumi's family was transferred to Guam and they could not take her along.  One of our WARN volunteers kindly offered to foster her, knowing how hard it is to find a new home for a senior dog.  But Sumi fit in with several of the resident Akitas and waited patiently for the right new family.  And yes - Sumi has a new home.  She is loved and well cared for and might even take rally classes.  Sumi is a very special girl and we are so happy we were able to help her find a warm, loving retirement home.

Update 04/01/11

Sadly Sumi went to the Rainbow Bridge.  She was well loved by two different families and will be sorely missed. Run free, Sumi.

TASHA

Tasha has finally found her perfect home.  She and Scott are best friends and go on walks and hikes.  She gets to spend all day with him at work. Someone finally understands the sweet energy Tasha has.  She spent almost 2 years looking for the right person and we are so happy for her.  She touched all our hearts with her happy, smiling soul.  We love you Tasha and hope you and Scott have many happy years together. Update: Tasha now has her Canine Good Citizen certification!

ANGEL

Angel found herself a miracle.  She came within days of being euthanized.  Networking saved her life.  Thanks to Alicia Meyer for helping  us find the Gallego family.  Angel is one of the shyest dogs I have ever run across and needed a family who would have the patience and love she needs to come out of her shell and be the sweet Akita she was meant to be.  The shelter saw no good in her and would not adopt her to the general public.   I even overheard someone call her an "evil" dog.  What were they thinking? Angel just needed someone to show her love and kindness.  Angel has opened her heart and is learning that people can be good and kind.  We wish them all the best.  Hugs to Angel.

DRACO

1/19/2000-12/30/2011

Draco is a wonderful old gentleman whose owners let stray from home and they never came to get him.  WAG networked with other Akita people from around the country and we found him a great home in Colorado.  Draco spent several days in one of our foster homes, warming his way into their hearts and even wanting to play with their Akitas.  Then he took a long drive to the tri-cities of south central Washington, where he spent a few days with another WARN member.  He won her over too. Then another long drive to meet his new family - in Boise.  An overnighter and finally the long drive home to Colorado.  He lives with all kinds of other animals, has lots of dog friends and gets to patrol the area as much as he wants.  He strolls down the drive and when he's ready to come back inside, woo woos and the door opens.  Thanks so much to our Colorado Akita friends.  You are very special people and Draco is a very special Akita. oh and Draco loves vanilla wafers!

UPDATE: Sadly, Draco has gone over the rainbow bridge. He brought joy to everyone who knew him and he will be sorely missed.

 KODIAK (KO)

Kodiak (now Ko) has finally found his forever home with Megan.  He has had a very long journey since he was found wandering a neighborhood north of Seattle, wearing Oklahoma rabies tags?  Thanks much to his first foster mom, Anna, for saving this sweet boy.  He was in very bad shape and scared of lots of things, including car rides.  He went to his first home but because people's lives change, Ko came back to WAG.  Once again, our Robin stepped up, and took him in.   Happily,  we were contacted by Megan, who had a spot in her heart and home for this young, fun-loving boy.  We wish Megan and Ko all the best as they continue to learn about each other.

KELLEY

Kelley is finally home.  Her foster family has decided she is not leaving.  She has learned to live with cats and has a new best friend - a Shiba named Jax.  Jax knows just how Kelley feels.   He was rescued too - by WAG.

KINTO

Kinto is learning how to live in his new home with a cat.  He was very lonely at the shelter but  now he is loved by Alyssa and  Ken.  They were very patient and the right Akita came along for them.  We are so happy!

UPDATE - Kinto LOVES yogurt and going for hikes with his backpack!

HACHI

Hachi has found his new forever home.  He is a very sweet boy who has already made himself at home.  He made friends with the resident dogs and then laid down to chew on a new toy.  He will be well loved and never have to worry again.  Thanks to all who made this possible - Tamara, Pam and Christine.  And his new family, of course!

 DIESEL

Another young Akita has found a new home.  He is such a happy boy and has already learned to live with a cat.  He has children to play with and gets to go on walks with his family.  They think he is wonderful and very smart.  Diesel will have a long, happy life in this loving home.  Thanks to Kathleen, Laura, Alyssa and Julie for their help.

 KODIAK

After a couple of false starts, Kodiak found the right home.  I know he will be missed by Scott, Tasha, and Piper, but he will get all the attention and love he deserves in his new home.

 CLAIRE

YAY!  Claire has a new home.   She is such a bundle of energy and love.

AMY

Amy spent several months with the Best Friends of Baker City until she came to WAG.  Thanks to Hilary and Lance for taking her in.  Any Thanks to her new family: Sharon, Alan and Jocelyn for giving her a wonderful forever home, complete with walks along the river and in the park.  Happy Life Amy!

YASHA

Yasha has finally found her forever home.  Originally taken in by some very nice people who found her roaming their neighborhood, she moved on to foster care with Jenny and Thomas.   She is now living the high life, including car rides and peanut butter snacks with Darryl and Lella.   Pretty Yasha - finally home.  <G>
